I am having a slight issue. I have a PowerColor Radeon HD 5450 graphics card installed on a Dell Inspiron 531s with Windows 8 Pro installed. And I am currently using a DVI connection, BUT I have an HDMI cord I want to use for full HD 5.1 surround sound from my new receiver. So I want to continue to use my DVI connection for video (as my monitor doesn't support HDMI), but use the HDMI as my audio (connected directly from my computer to my receiver).
Now, the issue I'm having is this: when I plug my HDMI cord into the card, windows won't read it. It says it's not plugged in, and not playing audio. And making the HDMI port my default audio device is not possible, as windows has to be able to read the cord as plugged in for me to change it. The drivers are also up-to-date for my graphics card. I also know it's not the cord, because I tested it with 2 different HDMI cords, same result.
I'm a huge audiophile, so I just want to have my display and full surround sound, so please help me out.
P.S. There are so many forum options that my issue seems to apply to, so I just put it here.
