No, The 4000 and 5000 series cannot talk to each other. An upgrade was
promised to remedy the situation but that was dropped. Instead, all who
owned both a 4000 and 5000 series were given an opportunity to trade one
or the other in at no cost so they'd have either 2 4000's or 2 5000's. I
took advantage of that myself and traded a 4160 for a 5160 to match my
newer 5040. That program ended 9/30/03.
