So I built a new machine and I want to put Win 7 on it on a 64GB Crucial M4. I have the Win 7 upgrade disk that I used to bring my laptop (now deceased) from Vista to Win 7. I do not have the Vista disk if I recall but I do have a few XP disks (one license is currently being used, others are old) from old machines. Not sure if I have the Vista License key, but I might could get it from Dell.
I have my laptop drive itself that I can put into my new machine, I also have an external 2.5" dock.
I have read that I could image the laptop HDD to the SSD, which seems like my only 100% technically legal option if I cant find a Vista license.
Am I better off getting the right disks/licenses and doing an XP/Vista install then Win 7 upgrade clean install or is imaging the Win 7 onto the SSD as good option?
