NEW YORK (AP) -- The leader of the International Monetary Fund and a possible candidate for president of France was pulled from an airplane moments before he was to fly to Paris and was arrested Sunday in connection with the violent sexual assault of a hotel maid, police said

article

He was planned to be the french democratic candidate for l'Élysée (our White House)
He already has been in troubles for sexual comportment with an Hungarian lady working at IMF. (Hungarian?)

I don't know what to think about this new case (just woke up and reading that in the newspaper)

More about : imf leader arrested

^^

This case is meat and drink of the French press.
Not a word about the Cup victory of my soccer team

(is this correct? "meat and drink"? i was wondering about using "meat and drink" or "make the field of the press"?
May 15, 2011 9:06:02 AM

"Bread and Butter" = "Meat and Drink" = "staple diet" ... so yes ... your interpretation is correct ... though a discinctly "european" interpretation.

We would probably say "the local media are "eating this up".

I like to think of the media like "carrion" ... they tend to be bottom feeders.

We call the effect "Tall Poppy Syndrome" ... look it up.

Outch! Was hard to understand for me, but i think i get it.

Since one or two weeks, Strauss-Kahn is targeted by the press because of his lifestyle.

Our democratic party (Parti Socialiste) is searching for a leader, for the François Mitterrand's successor and all of the polls, about presidential elections, are giving him as the winner.
I let you imagine the impact of such news in France.

/ won't use google traduct ! got balls!

Interesting question, rey. (the article was too!)
If it is a political trap, i'm not sure that the FN (extrême droite/nationalists) has the power to do such a thing.
But many people in here are thinking about a plot.
May 15, 2011 3:42:51 PM

I agree ... it seems like some sort of trap.

One must think who has the most to gain by a move like this? They would clearly not want the spotlight to be thrown on them.

The answer will be who has the least to gain ... for none would suspect them?

A certain woman?

It's possible that he really did rape the maid. Don't know how probable, but possible.
May 15, 2011 6:33:19 PM

My bad, I didn't see this before posting the same thing. I deleted the thread I posted to save the trouble of a duplicate.

What I stated in the thread is that the IMF chief isn't sane. He knew what he was doing, i.e. immediately bolting for France right after the fact. You have to wonder what the heck he was thinking.

Who says romance isn't dead?

gropouce is our man on the ground ... I expect he will let us know before the papers do.

You're right, i agree.
Most part of us are awaiting for the testimony of the maid to form his own idea.

But DSK is also known as a ladies' man...

That's why we stay cautious in here.
He is supposed to be an intelligent man, knowing that the elections deadline approach. Why would he get himself in such a mess? This have no sense (or he is only a beast and deserve to be thrown in jail)

I have thrown out a call to arms from our other French brothers asking them for more input on this topic (gropouce is their forward scout).

Thankfully most of them are far better at English than I am with French.

Lets see if any of them have to time to pop over ... as gropouce has kindly done.

gropouce a fait défection. peut-être temporairement ...

ON A GAGNÉ §§§§

Hello all. I'm a french guy too, and a northerner too, and we are the winner of the France Cup.

DSK ? I think too that we must wait for the truth, before to have a misjudgement. It's smell like a dirty trick, even if he's a donkey in heat

First thought that came to my conspiracy theory addled brain was that this is a move by the Bilderberg Group and Trilateral Commission to remove Strauss-Khan as the leader of the IMF to install a talking head who will further the implementation of the New World Order.

Maybe I need to lay off listening to Alex Jones...

Or, just like any other human that has great power and no moral compass, he became corrupted and believes he deserves to take advantage of others. The "Tiger Woods syndrome" if you will.

Welcome Chaugnar ... old one!!

He seems to have an alibi now ...

It still seems like some sort of smear campaign ... do you agree?

May 16, 2011 5:24:57 PM

It just came across that he was denied bail. Looks like the judge thought he was a flight risk. I don't blame her there. He's got the money and means to "disappear" if he indeed committed the crime.
May 16, 2011 6:18:12 PM

It seems to be a fury against him, but I could be wrong. Wait and see ...
May 16, 2011 6:26:39 PM

What is the evidence I wonder? Just this maid's word against his? Is their security video footage? Lot's of missing information here.

Exactly. There is a lot out there yet that we (the public) do not know about. If he was indeed having dinner with his daughter at the time of the alleged incident, you would think that the restaurant would have security camera footage of him entering and leaving, along with a timestamps. What's concerning though is that he MAY have done this before in 2002. However, I highly doubt that the case will go far due to the length of time since that alleged incident, but it cannot help him.

I guess it's a wait and see game to see what other info comes out.

This man will get to the heart of the matter
May 17, 2011 6:20:22 PM

Not really "French", but "French Socialist politicians", because they relied on him for the elections. They defend it by interest, with the resources they have ..

Yeah, they point out in the article that it is your "ruling elite politicos" that are most upset.
May 17, 2011 11:33:11 PM

Tall poppy syndrome we call it ...
May 17, 2011 11:42:27 PM

Either way, it builds character. ;)
May 18, 2011 9:11:44 AM

I just learned thanks to you two terms: the average joe, and poppy syndrome. It is nice talking to you, where do you live exactly?
May 18, 2011 12:00:10 PM

I currently reside in Perth, Western Australia ... its probably the nicest Australian city to live in (apart from Brisbane)... has a real country town feel to it and great weather ... I'm about 4kms from the best beaches.

In saying that people we know just came back from 4 weeks in France and they loved it there ... I know because now they are wearing hats and scarves everywhere.

:)

Hello Chaugnar, I live in Virginia, which is on the mid-Atlantic coast, USA.

Reynod, I know another Aussie from an online game I play. He's in the Navy and lives in Perth. He describes it as heaven on earth.
May 24, 2011 2:13:40 AM

If that turns out to be true, he's darn "lucky" things didn't go to plan.

It also appears that he has a "thing" for hotel workers.
