check with the motherboard manufacturer's website to see if yours can support an FX chip. i'm guessing it most likely can with a BIOS update. an FX-6300 is recommended at most.

if you at least have a decent 550-600W PSU from a good brand, i can see you fit in a high end 7900/660ti/670 card in there along with the FX-6300. otherwise, you're looking to spend $60 at most for a decent PSU.

What is your budget on upgrades? You could benefit from both CPU and GPU upgrades. If you are planning on keeping your current resolution of 1440x900, then your GPU should be fine, as long as you turn down some post-processing like AA and AF. I would upgrade the CPU first.

budget will probably be less than 500, you think a motherboard upgrade would be necessary with the cpu upgrade? also my power supply could be a little weak, would that alter the performance negatively?

slightly less performance compared to the 6300, and frame latency don't stray off to far off on TH's tests, though the techreport tests gave a different result
