Hey guys I was wondering if there is some sort of an overclock guide for my CPU its a AMD Athlon II X4 640 Propus 3.0GHz.

Any help would be great because I am a newbie when it comes to this stuff.

Thanks

Your mobo isn't the best one for overclock but we can try it.

First step is disable Cool'n'Quite, C1E support and PCI-E spread spectrum (disable by default I think). Start to read what does the reference clock (also called FSB) and the relation between the FBS and the frequency of RAM, NB and HT.

The easiest way to start out is to disable what saint19 suggested - Cool'n'Quite, C1E support and PCI-E spread spectrum.

Then raise the cpu multiplier one step at a time and run a stability test (eg prime95) for 30 minutes at least. When you get to a point where the stability test fails, increase the voltage minimally and repeat the stability tests.

Where you stop is when your temps reach too high, at which point you need a better cpu cooler to further the oc. I'd stay as far below 60C as i could. my pII x4 955 i kept at 3.7Ghz running at a cool <50C at 100% load

@jbseven-->multi is locked on that chip.....

OP ...just disable the feature saint said then lower your RAMS speed down to like 1333 MHz raise the FSB to 240..that should get you up around 3.7 GHZ with 1600 MHz RAM...NB and HT should be kept between 2000-2400 MHz..All voltages should be set to manual
...this is just the beginning...my hands hurting from typing I will get back to you on this issue ASAP
