Ok so the system specs I have decided upon:

CPU: Intel Core i7-3820(will upgrade eventually to the IB equivalent of 3930K)
Mobo: Asrock Socket 2011 X79 Extreme3
RAM: Corsair Vengeance 16GB 2x8GB CL10 1866MHz
PSU: CoolerMaster GX-750W(another if i go with CFX)

Now, should I buy a HD6850 or a GTX560 and later replace with the HD8970 when it drops or should I just get a HD7970 now and later get another one when prices drop?
Oh, and I would like some 3D joy so, will the HD6850 overclocked suffice to play at at least 1080p@30?

Honestly It really depends on when you decide to buy the longer you wait the more I would advise you to just wait and see what the next gen will bring. If the newer cards are out of your price range you will be able to purchase cards of the current generation at a probably considerably lower price. If you like 3D you will be better off with the NVIDIA solution the current cards are great I have a GTX670OC from Gigabyte. However that will just enable you to be able to watch 3D. You will also need a monitor to display 3D a 120hz monitor so that may sway things a bit for you. What do you think?

ding! ding! ding! ding!

get the best tech available now. the price of the 8970 when launched are going to be extremely high, as were the 7xxx series. with rumored specs of 10% higher clock rate that the boost edition and 20% more processors; i am not sure it will be a better price performance value

Its really hard to judge. Whether it will be or not. Drivers do change a lot of things. But yea if you buy leading up to the release of the next gen GPU's you will probably get the better price.

Well I already got a new S23A750D for 130EUR so I have the monitor and glasses. I would like some 3d gaming even at 720p but mainly watch 3D from the PC. My GPU budget is around 450EUR-500EUR. The GTX 560

costs 300EUR as opposed to the XFX R7970 Double-D BE which costs 412EUR
http://www.visionstudio.gr/prodinfo.asp?id=29307&cat=5&sub=undefined&pmanuf=undefined&sort=33&step=undefined. If I get a lower end card for like 100EUR then i will be able to get a new card in 1-2months. What would ou do?

I would get something like the 660Ti or the 670 for 3D I wouldn't spend money on a older generation card. The site is in greek I used the google translate to find this one by club3d at overclock3d.net Tiny Tim Logan really high rates the cards
http://www.overclock3d.net/reviews/misc_hardware/oc3d_best_of_2012_awards/6 . I don't exactly know what your budget is but the 670 would be the better option for 3D then the 660Ti. However both cards will suffice.
