long load times, activision only?

Hi,
I have recently installed Call of Duty with no problems. However when
I launch the game either by autoplay from the cd or by clicking the
shortcut the game takes around 2 minutes to load. I have also just
installed Doom 3 to try that and it does exactly the same, taking 2
minutes to load. Once the games have loaded they run fine. Does it
have something to do with activision games since Ubisofts Farcry loads
instantly?

I would be most grateful if someone could shed some light on this.

Cheers, Jason

Hi Paul thanks for the reply. It is taking 2 minutes to launch the
game from the desktop. I click on the shortcut and just get a small
title screen box for 2 mins before anything happens. Initially I
though the thing had crashed but after 2 mins it starts to launch. I
made sure to defrag before I installed so it should be fine, I have not
had the computer long so there is not a great deal of rubbish on there
yet. I have been reading about apoen drives and safedisc? causing
loading problems. Could this be the problem?

Cheers, Jason

DOOM 3 taking 2 minutes to load a level doesn't sound that unreasonable. Is
that where loading times are happening, on the level loading screen or
somewhere else?

If the drive is heavily fragmented it can slow things down a lot, disk
defragmenter can be ran from the Tools tab on the drives properties.

Yup if it's happening on the initial splash screen sounds like the copy
protection thing having a paddy.

What I've been doing lately is using Alcohol 120% to create images of all my
discs and then using Virtual Daemon to mount them, which saves me putting
the disc. You could try that.

You'll find Alcohol's own virtual drive works well also.

Cheers Paul I will have a go. Just out of interest I also installed
Doom 3 (which is also safedisc protected) and that also took 2 mins to
launch. I then installed the 1.3 patch which disables the safedisc and
it loaded instantly. So it definately looks like a safedisc problem.
Anyway thanks for the help, much appreciated.
