OK, so I ordered and received my second 5040 refurb unit. My first unit is
connected via a digital cable box, and all's been working great during the
two weeks I've had it. This second unit is much newer, I can tell because
of the difference in serial number, as well as the manual and quick start
guides that came with it. Plus, it's got the new remote which doesn't say
Sonic Blue on it.

Anyway, this second unit seems to be working fine *except* that the ReplayTV
menus flicker something awful. I have this unit connected to standard cable
(no box), and it's connected to a flat-screen Panasonic TV via svideo/rca
audio. The TV menus don't flicker, nor do the VCR menus or Comcast's
channel guide.

Now on the first 5040, there's no flicker whatsoever. But this one's
connected to an LCD TV via progressive video/rca audio. (I originally set
it up using svideo, and I don't recall seeing any menu flicker, either.) I
realize that my Panasonic flat-screen TV is interlaced and the LCD TV is
not. But this menu flicker seems excessive to me. TV reception seems
excellent, and the more I look at the menus, the less I notice the flicker.
That is, till I go away and come back to the TV and pull up a menu. Then I
really notice the flicker again. Has anyone else experienced this?

I'm really not looking forward to pulling apart both setups so I can swap
RTVs and see if my first unit suffers menu-flicker on the Panasonic TV. I'm
even less enthused about having to ship the 5040 back.... But I don't want
to activate (or keep) a defective unit.

Comments appreciated. :-)

Regards,

Margaret
