On idle, my GTX 680 card is at around 36 degrees Celsius. I'm not sure if this is normal, but when playing Far Cry 3 on Ultra settings, anti-aliasing maxed, the temperature on my card immediately goes up to around 80 Celsius. The last time I started to play I continued to play for about 30 mins and it never seemed to top 81 Celsius. I was just wondering if this was normal, because I don't want to do any kind of damage to my card or system.

Specs:
CPU- i5-3570k 3.4ghz
GPU- EVGA GTX 680 4gb
RAM- Corsair 16gb 1866mhz
Storage- 256gb OCC Agility Sata 4 III SSD
OS- Windows 8 standard
Cooling- Corsair H60 120mm Liquid Cooling
PSU- Corsair 1050w
Case: Corsair Obsidian Series 650d

Personally I feel 80c is a Tad hot however the past few generations of Nvidia cards have run at this temp or higher.

But you are fine.

If it really concerns you ....you may want to get an after market cooler for your card. It can make a big difference and will run a lot quieter too.

Check out this video. It will give you a good idea of what you can accomplish. This guy's GTX570 was 32 degrees cooler with this arctic cooling accelero GPU cooler.

80 degrees is well exceptable, it could be lower but there is no need to worry. Most cards only fail at around 100 degrees.

As moose has posted you may want to increase your fan setting to keep your card a bit cooler.

Alright I moved the GPU fan speed up a bit from 35% to 50% and now I'm getting around 32 Celsius. Is there a limit to which I should stop increasing the fan speed?

When it gets too loud for you.

Far Cry 3 at maxed settings is one of the most demanding games, and your card is most likely running at 100% load the entire time. But 80C is extremely acceptable for that card, and poses no danger to any part of your PC. Idle temps of 30-40C are normal, too.

Stop increasing the fan speed when it is just to noisy for you to live with.

For me my 6770 is a silent cell with no fan just a 2kg heatsink. Thing never goes past 74 degrees
