I'm trying to throw together some parts I have to make a second computer so that my wife isn't shut out of cyberspace when I'm playing games.

I'm trying to reuse the mini-tower case from an old Dell XPS H266 with a Chaintech Athalon motherboard. Everything is going fine except that the cable from the front panel (power switch, light, IDE light, etc) doesn't fit on the appropriate connector on the motherboard. It's not in front of me, but I think that the cable has 16 pins and the motherboard connector has 24 or so. I came up empty trying to find the Dell pinout on their website. Their tech referred me to some pages that only showed me where the connector is located.

So, does anyone know where I can find the pinout info? I suppose that Dell uses some non-standard connector just to foil people like me. Any ideas or info would be appreciated.

Just remember, no matter where you go...there you are.

Say it with me: Athlon. Not Athalon, Athlon.

Just replace the whole plug, use an ohm meter to find the right wires

Pull the front panel card. Remove the clip from the cable. Remove the cable. Now you can see where all the traces go. Hook up some cables from another case, and put the clip back on.

What's the frequency, Kenneth?
