Vpn port forwarding

i set up a vpn server its ip address on its external nic is for example 192.168.3.1 but my adsl router tp link has its ip is of another range say 192.168.2.200...can i make port forwading for my client machines to access my vpn server ...is it mandatory that vpn server ip and adsl router ip should be in same range...i am not using static ip for vpn server...preffering dyndns
