5400 vs 7200 rpm lifetimes

Are there data on which one lasts longer?

Also, is it usu the case that bad sectors develop before a HD crashes? Assuming you exclude failure due to external shock.

  1. With today's drives, they're expected to last about the same. However, "theoretically", the 5400 RPM drive lasts longer due to slower rotational speed.

    Usually yes.
