I have always used laptops and this will be my first desktop build. I am currently using a ASUS G73. I am not looking for anything that is really over the top, and plan on doing no overclocking. This will mainly be a programming/photo/video editing computer, but I would also like to the power to run some of my games.
Here is what I am looking atm.

ASUS HD7870 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121649 "on sale right now and is around $215 after the rebates
an alternative would be the EVGA 660sc" http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130826

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231460 "also on sale right now $50 meh it's memory"

ASRock Z77 Extreme6 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157295 "$150 this is one thing I am not sure about, I have always used Asus laptops and have never had a problem with them "on my 3rd one". An alternative would be one of the Asus boards around the same price http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131837

Pretty much set on this i5 3570k http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819116504 "$230"

CM 212 evo http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835103099 "$35"

Samsung 120 SSD http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820147188 "$100"

I also want a case that that is big enough to work and manage cables in. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811129178 "$100 not really married to it"

Now, with shipping and all that comes out to be around $930.

The only thing I am really missing is the PSU. The CM 500W is also on sale right now after rebates for $30 bucks. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817171031&nm_mc=EMC-IGNEFL030113&cm_mmc=EMC-IGNEFL030113-_-EMC-030113-Latest-_-PowerSupplies-_-17171031-L05C and that is my big question. Will the 500W psu be enough for the 7870. It seems the 660 runs at a lower wattage. Since I am not overclocking my thoughts are that it should be fine.

I guess I should add this

You're not overclocking and doing programming/editing, don't get an i5. Get a i7-3770, it's a lot better for what your doing. You need 16gb ram of memory. Also, the motherboard is way too expensive for your needs.
