Between 6 pm and 7 pm pacific time Friday evening, 7-2-2004,
my replay 5040 suddenly decided that the channels that it
received from Spokane Comcast Cable (analog) was a channel
lineup of Seattle channels. This meant for me that the
program it was to record between 6 pm and 7 pm recorded, but
no programs could be recorded beginning with the 7 pm
program it was to record, since everything it was supposed
to be recording was for Spokane channels, not Seattle
channels. I tried calling Replay TV customer service, but
they (besides dropping their toll-free number) only provide
support during office hours. I emailed them, but that was
not answered. I called them today, and they noted that
other people had called from Spokane, complaining, and they
knew what the problem was, but they still took well over
half an hour on the call. The Level 2 support person said
he didn't know of this sort of thing happening during his
year and a half there. However, they said it would be two
or three days before they would have it fixed. And I will
just have to keep checking to see if my unit can download
the correct channel lineup.
This level of service seems pretty poor to me. I think I'll
have to look at other alternatives. I had thought pretty
highly of the Replay TV system, at least compared to other
commercial alternatives. But it relies on the program guide
to be of any value at all. And if they are not going to
support that..... Well, I would welcome any comments
other newsgroup readers may have on this issue. This has
been a big disappointment to me.
