I cannot connect to the internet with my new RT314 router. I was wondering if I need a crossover cable with this router. This is my understanding:

The phoneline plugs into your dsl modem. Out from the DSL modem, you use a crossover cable that goes into the "Internet" port on the RT314.

Then from ports 1-4 you use normal straight through cat5 cable to connect into your nics on the other pcs.

Please help me out here. Thanks

Well, the answer is maybe yes, maybe no. See page 2-7 of the manual. It says it's entirely dependant on your Cable/DSL modem. Now, in general this connection will need straight thru. Bottom line: It's very easy to tell if you've got the right cable, just check to see if you've got a link light on the front panel of the RT314 (Internet port light). If you get a light the cable is correct. If not, try the other one.

It's always the one thing you never suspected.
