Why are RAM prices skyrocketing right now?

I monitor PC Part Picker on a daily basis and I've noticed in the last month or so - a set of 8GB G.Skill Ares RAM used to retail for $38, now it's going for $56. A set of 8GB Corsair RAM used to go for $41 now it's going for $59. I read that Micron was buying one of the key RAM component manufacturers - could this be the reason or is it something else?

The prices are honestly just getting back to normal. The past year or so have been record low RAM prices and oversupply. I think we are seeing some market correction and a few players cutting their supply or dropping out because prices were so low.
