More info?)
Hi Johnny,
Seems there are quite a few folks that are not happy with the way Nokia
has launched a new phone without essential supporting accessories...
Like you, I have the Cark-126 and wish to use my 6680 with it. After
extensive searching and phone calls to online suppliers etc I finally
got a response by email from nokia advising that the Cark-126 is not
compatible with the 6680 and I would have to purchase an upgrade kit.
Check this out...
Called my local Nokia service centre who assure me that if I buy the
CR-27 cradle (approx £30) replace the existing cable and plug in my
existing 126 leads that it WILL work. There are those that say if you
unplug your 126 and plug in to your 6680 directly that all it will do
is show the little 'car icon' and will charge the phone but you can't
phone out. Tried this and its true - however, the Service Centre
explained that the cradle has electronics/software in it that allows
all pins to function (hence the pop port technology)- the problem is of
course that as my 6680 doesn't fit the cradle, I can't get contact to
all of the pins - theres only 3 on the connecting lead. Was also told
that the Cark-126 was the first to use the 'pop port' so naturally it
will work with the cradle. This advice, if correct, contradicts Nokia -
I have sent a stinker of a reply to Nokia explaining what the Service
centre had advised and have asked them to explain who is correct!
If what the Service Centre has told me is true then Nokia could have
made me go out and unecessarily spend £300+ for a new kit (CK-7W /
CR-27 + installation fee) when all I needed to spend was £30 for the
cradle.
I am fuming over this and have asked for the name and address of a
Senior Nokia Customer Services manager (or above) so that I can vent my
spleen and insist on an explanation. I also asked in my email that they
try and do something to provide more info to individuals like you and
me who have the 126 to advise that (if true) all you need to buy is a
new damned cradle!
Don't know if this will help you but I am going to go ahead and order
the CR-27 from mobilefun.co.uk (on back order) and give it a go on my
126. If it works then watch this space for my letter to Nokia!!
Cheers,
