Home built basic HTPC vs DELL 660s

I am very confused as to the advantage of building my own HTPC system versus getting a ready off the shelf DELL 660s.

I do not play games, this is just to watch some movies, stream amazon prime etc... I do want the thing to look good on my new 50'' TV, but apparently the simple intel graphics do just fine with HDMI output.

I was looking at all the configurations in the HTPC bestConfigs, and most configs are like 500$ and above. You can get a Dell 660s with core i3, 1TB 7200rpm, 6GB ram, DVD + usual for about 400$. It does physically look nice too.

So am I right thinking that for low-end stuff, getting an off-the-shelf HTPC is a better choice?

Side question:
-is it worth getting the core i3 (sandy-bridge) or the G2020 (ivy-bridge) is fine?

Thanks a lot!
