I am looking to upgrade my current cell phone, a Samsung 427 as I am not
happy with the reception I get with it, having to move by windows and
even going outside just to get a bar or two (I live in a rural area, in
town the phone works fine). My wife upgraded several months ago to a
Nokia 6010 which gets much better reception than my Samsung but the
numbers on the screen are so small compared to my 427.
So what I am looking for is a cell phone with the best possible
reception in rural areas being #1 priority. (I'm with Cingular). #2
priority-- Text and numbers that are not as small as the few Nokia
models I have seen. Everybody I talked with says Nokia has the best
reception for rural areas and if this is so are there any models that
anyone can recommend that has both reception and larger numbers than
the 6010?
Also since the Cingular store I visited has only a limited selection of
Nokias would I be able to buy one elsewhere (maybe ebay) and have it
work for me?

Are you talking about the display when you're keying in a number or
are you talking what happens when you receive or send a text message?
If it's text messages go to Messages/Message Settings/Other
settings/Font size and you can choose large or small. Not only does
this change the font size for text messages it changes it for other
things such as phonebook view as well.

You can use any handset that is 850 and 1900 Mhz capable. It's wise
with cingular that you choose a handset that is capable of both
frequencies.

Thanks for the reply. What I was talking about was mainly numbers on the
display when you either key them in to dial a number or the number on
the phone when receiving an incoming call. I did not know about
changing the font sizes, will this work on menu items as well or is it
just for text messaging?
Thanks again,
Michael

How well that works depends on the phone, though. My wife has a 6100,
and she finds even the largest font on that is smaller than she'd like
it to be.
