Hey all,

Some help needed:

- the main thing is that i am planning a trip to the US (new york -> LA -> Las Vegas) in 10 days and as a non US citizen (from israel) i wondered if you can help me in sugesting reliablbe places to buy my PC parts which is also cheap. (of course i would prefer to buy it in vegas before leaving home again)

- does anybody knows how do i get back the taxes in the airport on my way back? should i get something in the shop as well? or just showing up at the airport with the recipt? any idea how long this process is?

- and finally, advices about the parts from that store i should buy: i have a few anchors as i want to build a top notch quality computer that would last long for gaming, pic and video editing - i would go for the i7 3770K, i have already the noctua NH-D14, i think i prefer an asus mobo, and this is the build i came up with:

thanks in advance with the help!
Oren.

CPU. given a gift card from newegg would be useless to you. get it here
http://us.ncix.com/products/?sku=70540&promoid=1324

ram. faster ram is useless
http://us.ncix.com/products/?sku=78420&promoid=1026

GPU. you will want a 670
http://us.ncix.com/products/?sku=72914&promoid=1393

hard drive
http://us.ncix.com/products/?sku=74462&promoid=1324

case. its a fractal define r4. should go well with the silence of the d14
http://us.ncix.com/products/?sku=75051&vpn=FD%2DCA%2DDEF%2DR4%2DTI&manufacture=Fractal%20Design

the rest. not sure about taxes and all though.

the bigger power supply is for when you want to put another GPU inside. if not you can buy a 550w

First thanks for replying!
I don't think you really understood my request or i don't get it..

firsI am looking for a physical store not an online one at which i would buy all the parts of the computer on the spot so i can take it immediately since i only visit the states not living there.

second thing, the ram you suggest is slower AND more expensive then what i planed on buying.

why would i want the 670? except of the obvious that it's better, it's much more expensive.

i don't need a hard drive or an optical one. only a SSD.

i won't buy a case in the states, I will buy it in Israel.

about the PSU - seasonic is as good and cheaper, why the change?

don't need an OS.

so basically to conclude I am looking for a good store (i found a store called FRYS that has a branch in vegas and the prices look ok) to uy on the spot the components which are: CPU, GPU, PSU, Mobo, RAM, SSD.
in the FRYS i found this:
- CPU: i7 3770k - 340$
- Mobo: Asus P8Z77-V Pro - 199$
- PSU: Corsair Enthusiast Series TX750M - 110$
- RAM: Kingston HyperX DDR3 16GB 1600MHz (2X8GB)Modules - 88$
- SSD: Samsung 128gb 840 Pro Series - 130$
- GPU: ASUS GTX660 TI-DC2O-2GD5 GeForce GTX 660 Ti 2GB 192-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card - 310$

Can anyone tell me whether it's good?

id order it online. they ship fast enough so that you can get it.

you basically get scammed in store if they dont price match. your choice

-its 69.99 at us.ncix and faster ram is totally useless
-you will need it if you want it to last a long time. i personally would go 7950 if you want better bang for the buck but then it doesnt have CUDA
-a SSD isnt enough in terms of space. if you dont want one, go ahead
-if you want to do that, go ahead. you can probably buy intel chips there as well. intel has a pretty big department there
-the capstone is better. if you want that seasonic, go ahead

if you can find a microcenter, that i7 is 229.99

thats pretty expensive. i can get the same feature set on the ud4h

you dont need a 840 pro. its fast, but $/gb is crap. go with the plextor 256gb

the tx750m is barely modular. would not recommend

thats pretty overpriced for a 660ti.

the problems with shipping are that if something happens and it doesn't get on time - im f...d, and second - i need an address to send it to, i don't know if i can send it to my hotel..

- didn't see that price. i will look again, for the RAM that is.

- i think i want the cuda as for my understanding it makes a difference in video editing. though not sure if i want to add that much money for the 670, it's about 100$ difference.

- i have already several HDD's so i need the SSD just as an upgrade. don't you think the Samsung price will be worth it on the long run for longivity of the drive and reliability? (hope spelled those right :) )/

- i really see that you're right about the PSU though at the store (FRY's) they don't hold the rosewill brand' also not the seasonic i wanted that's why i went with the TX750M. but if you say it's not comfortable then i will look to change it.

- i have a thing for asus, had them till now and never caused problems. and now since i will probably give OC a chance i want a good Mobo that will hold it..

i will look for other stores as well, though i didn't succeed till now to find one with good selection of brands and normal price. i will look for microcenter as well.

tnx

do you happen to have a relative in the US? they could help

also, if you do come near these stores, go there. deals are amazing. this is near LA but im not sure how far as im canadian

new york

if you dont want the performance increase, at least get this 660ti. its the cheapest one so far. if not, just go with the asus one you picked out

samsung 840 pro is good, but not really worth it in terms of $/gb. might as well get a plextor 256gb

the tx750m is decent compared to the other units. id rather pick up the other ones though

the ud4h is referring to the motherboard i recommended. its the model

Might be an hour or less drive. Worth it? Definitely for the price.

Drop to a i5, get the gtx 670. You will get much more gaming performance, as most games are GPU bound, and not CPU bound (also 4 cores is more then enough for video work. the difference is measured in seconds. not worth the 100 bucks more).
You can prob ship to the hotel, place the order the day you leave, when you get there tell them you are expecting a package and to hold it for you. i dont understand what your saying about tax...

he can get to microcenter. it doesnt matter then if you get a i5 or i7.

OK, i think it would be complicated an expensive for me to drive all this way to microcenter for a 100$ difference (either a very expensive taxi or a very long tip on public transport - would kill a day in NY for me..) in the price and since i am not familiar with all the hardware and this is my first computer i am building myself, i can't just come to the store unprepared and buy from what i see there on the spot, i need to consult with people the do understand more and prepare a list of things i am going to buy.
if someone can find me a cheap stor in the center of manhattan or better yet in Vegas and advise me what to buy there i would appreciate it.
for now i am aiming at buying in FRY's at Vegas, the list of components i published.
The CPU and Mobo are not negotiable, the rest, i am open for suggestions, bu keep in mind i want good quality and silent computer that will last, even in a bit higher price.

TheBigTroll - i did not find the SSD, the RAM and the PSU you recommended at this store. have any other recommendations?

there is no other store that offers such price deals. unless frys would price match (which i doubt they will), there isnt any other option.

the SSD is at microcenter, the psu can be replaced by a corsair tx650 (its not what id get but its still good. it does weigh a bit more). the ram can be replaced by any kit of 2x4gb 1600mhz cl9 1.5v you can find. grab the cheapest kit

Ok, so i decided to go and buy the computer parts in tge microcenter at the l.a. store. Now I'm going to buy the i7 3770 cpu, the asus z77-v pro, and i think i'lk stick to the gtx 660 ti gpu. For RAM i need recommendation for 16gb dual that will fit with the noctua d14 cpu fan, and would be happy for an advice on good gold certified psu, right now i'm aimimg for the ax750w of corsair, which is quite expensive.

Tnx in advance.
