raid controllers

I was wondering, say you get a raid controller, can you hook up one hard drive to one channel and another hard drive to another channel without having to raid them? Say a 40 gig on one and a 60 gig on the other? Would that work?

I think it will, but i just want to make sure that it will.

Also, you can do like a dual 60 gig raid one channel, and have like a 40 gig on the other channel, but the 40 gig not raid connected to the two 60 gig hd's. Anyone get da picture?

In most cases yes, you can made a 1 drive "array" even though its not really an array. It all depends on the specific controller and how it sets up the drive config though.
