Price no object. I'm interested in the best sound out to a DAC. I'm not a gamer at all and I don't need lots of software, just the best in sound.I'm new to this board, so forgive me if this has already been answered.

Tom did a comparison of a really high end consumer card (semi-professional) against the Audigy, the other card won of course, you should look it up.

Never mind, click on the following link <A HREF="http://www4.tomshardware.com/video/02q1/020115/index.html" target="_new">http://www4.tomshardware.com/video/02q1/020115/index.html</A>

What's the frequency, Kenneth?

If you're not planning on plugging speakers to the soundcard, but are planning to plug the output of your soundcard to a receiver or an amp, then check this out:

(Guitar Center sells 'em for $160). The best deal for its price. If you want more professional stuff, check out midiman other products. The quality is really killer. If the quality is your main concern, I would go with this or similar brands. Forget about that SB! Dead Crap.

Hoontech, M-audio, Terratec, Aardwark (The Direct Pro: YEAH BABY!) and all the other high end all have good dacs (24/96). However, if you use a lot of midi*and* a lot of analogue you may want to buy one midi card and one for analogue. Yamaha SW1000XG is an exellent midi card (arounf $400), and I know that M-audio have a card that is very flexible as it is modular and you can choose to expand with only the modules you need. I think Terratec also have one of those in their 2496 series, but I'm not sure. The Aardvark Direct Pro is about 550-600 and is the best chioce if you do a lot of analogue *recording*, although it's good as a mixer as well. If you happen to be very rich you should just build a Pro Tools studio (drool).

Just because people are following me does not mean I'm paranoid!
