I have a 5040 and my internet connection is via 2-way satellite. My
connection can download files at up to 100KB/sec, but has high
latency. My replayTV can get an update over this connection. Tech
support says it doesn't support my type of connection. I tried a modem
connection last weekend. It took forever and still didn't update my
listings. Does anyone know of a work around, apart from driving it to
my office once a week?

I know of one but don't know how to do it.

Basically you set up a proxy server, this is a program that runs on your
//main computer at home. It then downloads your listings, and your
replay downloads from it.

Else, tell it to update via modem at 02:00 am when you are sleeping or
if you live alone at 9:00 am when you are at the office working (If you
have a sig-other find a time you are either both out sleeping or out
working)

I've never used a proxy server though. so can't help you there

Option 3: DSL
