Nvidia display settings are not available

Whenever I try to access the NVIDIA control panel, the error "NVIDIA Display settings are not available. You are not currently using a display attached to an NVIDIA GPU." This happens after/whenever I update my drivers. Inside the device manager it says that the card is working correctly. Also if I revert the drivers to before updating, the control panel works again.
