Nokia has the 9300 on their coming soon page--but don't say if that is
going to be the U.S. version (850/1800/1900) or the European version
that the rest of the world already has. Does anyone have any information
on the subject.

are you referring to this?

http://www.nokiausa.com/phones/9300/0,7747,feat:1,00.ht...

in which case it lists:

Service
Tri-band EGSM 900/1800/1900 MHz operation for use on five continents,
automatic switching between bands‡

I was referring to the listing on:

http://www.nokiausa.com/phones/expectedsoon

But clicking on that, and then on See more Nokia 9300 smartphone
features, gets me to the page you list, which indeed appears to imply
only the 900 version.

With a little searching, I can still find a Nokia page that claims both
versions--at

http://www.forum.nokia.com/main/0,,018-1750,00.html?mod...

But it is looking more and more as though they have decided not to bring
out the U.S. version. That seems weird--unless they are planning to
announce a quad band, and I've seen no rumors of that.

The 9500 is already available in the U.S., although I can't find
evidence that it is available through any U.S. cell carrier. And it's
still just 900/1800/1900.

To expand my question a little ... . Assuming they aren't going to
bring out the 850 version that they originally planned, any guesses as
to why?
