Alright first off this is my first computer build and ive actually never gamed before on PCs. I hope to use my 50" 1080p plasma as my monitor and i also have a 5.1 surround sound system that i hope to use as the sound system for my PC. I have been reading the forums quite a bit and came up with what i thought was reccomended by all of you.

I hope to:
Play blu-ray movies in 3D
Play games such as BF3, company of heroes 2, simcity, rome total war 2.

Mobo- ASUS P8Z77-V PRO LGA 1155 Intel Z77
processor- i5 3570k
GPU- HIS IceQ Boost Clock H795QC3G2M Radeon HD 7950 3GB 384-bit
Hard drive- Seagate Barracuda STBD2000101 2TB 7200 RPM
PSU- CORSAIR HX Series HX750 750W ATX12V 2.3 / EPS12V
memory- G.SKILL Sniper Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1866
optical drive- ASUS Black Blu-ray Drive SATA Model BC-12B1ST/BLK/B/AS - OEM
case- COOLER MASTER HAF X RC-942-KKN1
os- win8

I want to check to ensure that all the parts are compatible and will do what i need them to do. I am currently on my way home from a year in afghanistan so i have the money if there is some improvement to my build that would make my life that much better, but also don't want to waste money on features i would not use. Would i need a sound card to really utilize my surround sound system? Thanks

Also I'd consider getting a Corsair H80. I like this type of cooler even as a non-overclocker because it moves the bulk of your CPU cooling solutions away from the motherboard and to an exhaust port giving you more room to operate around your motherboard.

I'd also stick with Windows 7 64-bit so you don't have to deal with the occassional incompatibility issues, but that's just me.

Were you serving in the military?
