Does anyone have any connections with Kenwood? I have one of their TrueX 52x drives but I was wondering if anyone knew about any new products that are in the works. Like maybe a TrueX CD burner, DVD, or CD burner/DVD combo drive.

I've heard things about Afreey Drive coming up with a 100x drive using multiple lasers - however, that was quite a while ago and I still haven't seen any showing of them.

I just did a quick search on google and I found a couple of old articles, most date back to Cebit 2001. Afreey is supposed to have created a 25x DVD/100x CD that would burn DVDs and CDs. I'd be opening up my wallet right now except even Afreey's web site makes no mention of this product being available anywhere. I was really hoping that Kenwood would use the multibeam technology to create CD/DVD burners or allow other manufacturers to use it, but it looks like plans aren't going so well. Hope they don't give up on this idea.

Yeah, the whole Truex thing got swep away. The vast majority of MBA's think a drive-is-a-drive. So, Kenwood is sticking to audio. And I think at this point, Afrey would be a dollar/year short.

We're stuck with single beams for a while, until someone's marketing section comes up with something brilliant. Like, using non-washable spray paint on all the SanFran sidewalks...
