I'm not the best when it comes to computers, I know the basic things, I guess you could say. I am planning on building my own computer rather than buying a prebuilt one. I'm concerned about the GPU, which are two HD Radeon 7770's, I'm looking for 60+ fps on games like Battlefield 3, and Skyrim, on max settings ,to name a few. Will those cards do the trick? My price range for this computer is around 1200$ , and I think I have it all figured out, but like I said, I'm not the best when it comes down to computers. When looking to get more fps , should I just look at the GPU? Or is there another part that helps determine that? And if those cards won't cut it, which one(s) will?

If you're budget is $1200, you can definitely achieve max settings with 60 fps on those games. I'd say you're better off getting the single best GPU with your money and later getting another if you choose. There are a lot of things to consider when putting a rig together but for gaming, the GPU will be the most important and you'll want to put more money towards it.

Like bull22 said, you better get one card only because Cfx/Sli have a lot of compatibility issues. For that price, you can gwet a good i5 with 8gb of ram, 1tb 7200rpm sata3 hard drive and a good gpu (around 350-400$). I would recommend GTX 670 and, if possible, GTX 680. Btw, try not to buy the ones with the blower cooler (the closed one). Try to get something like a Gigabyte or an Asus.

Now 1 HD Radeon 7870 2gb card - 240$
I'm not sure if this is needed - 750watt power supply - 90$
Motherboard - 110$
16gb RAM - 110$
CPU - 200$
CPU H/S - 35$
Case - 160$
All - 1085$ or so

I'm not the greatest with computers, so I threw a few things together, and hoping for the best.

get:

-i5 3570k
-ASRock Z77 Extreme4 lga1155 Motherboard
-8gb any ram, for about 5 bucks
-a 500-1tb HDD Of your choice
-Corsair power supply. as long as its 600 watts + itll do good.
- EVGA GTX 670.
you'll be set for life, mate. i dont have exact numbers, but yeah. If you want 60+ constant fps in bf3 maxed in 1080p, a 7870 will NOT do the job. it. will. not. do. not. argue. with. me. youll get 30-45 probably. in 720p youd be set, but 720 looks really grainy on anything 20'+

LET ME JUST EMPHASIZE HOW IMPORTANT IT IS FOR YOU TO NOT WASTE 60 BUCKS ON UNUSABLE RAM. I have 16gb ram, and it honestly DOES NOT make the TINIEST difference. honest.

About cookie cutter as it gets but right at your price range. This will get you the performance you want, obviously there are some places where you could save money if you wanted. If you're willing to spend top dollar, you might as well get top quality.

The high end gaming PC is going to be something that can run everything at 1080P at high to ultra settings. This machine will burn through any game on the market, and will have plenty of room for expansion as well.
