I have tried to research best options, used comparison tools, and now looking for advice. I'm not interested in over clocking. My current budget is around $450-$475 for a new video card. The GTX 670 4gb and GTX 680 2gb are approximately the same price. Would you recommend one over the other, and why? I will also plan on SLI in the future when some money is available.
the gtx 680 at the reso will be be a better choice. at 2560x1440 or up i would of said 670.
However have you considerd the 7970ghz? best of BOTH worlds why? . now the 7970ghz is faster than the 680 in most tests and quite a bit faster than the 670 in all tests. so with the 7970 ghz you get a gpu faster than the 680 while still having 3gb allowing you to mod games and allowing you to max all games details. i chose the 7970 ghz over the 670 4gb. and im super happy with it i ultra battlefield 3,arkham city, starcraft 2, etc its a beast of a card
BUT that being said there is NO WRONG CHOICE choose a card that your leaning towards and call it a day
But if u absolutely want to choose Geforce then there are few things to consider.
1. What Games do you usually play?
Most Games wont use more than 2GB vram usage, with the exception of SKyrim w/ Crazy Mods which uses more than 3GB of vram..
2. What Resolution and game settings do you play?
1920 x 1080 at maximum settings on BF3 only consumes 1.4 to 1.6.. Crysis 2 at 1.5 to 1.8.. SOo Baiscally 2GB is still safe..
3. Do you plan to go Multi-monitor Setups (Tri monitor at 5760 x 1080)?
When you go Triple Monitor Setup, then the 4GB is a must..
670 is cheaper while only giving up 5% to 7% in performance.. 4GB has no performance advantage againts the 2GB card unless one play Skyrim w/ Crazy Mods..
+1 to this as well (ty for helping i was thinking of a way to say all that haha)
Overall the 7970ghz single fastest gpu right now cant go wrong with it 3gbs of vram for piece of mind and a nice chunky 384bit/3gb if you go high resos
