HD5970 to GTX680 worthy upgrade???

Guys,
I'm trying to decide whether to upgrade my XFX HD5970 Black Edition. I bought this card just 3 years ago and it was the fastest card on the planet. It absolutley destroyed the GTX295. It still plays my games maxed at 1080p but FarCry 3 stutters like mad and I can't resolve it. So do I upgrade to a 7970 Ghz edition or a GTX 680, or probably wait until the Radeon 8000 series are in the shops? It's such a shame as it play FC3 all on High settings at 62fps but still stutters. Alot of YouTube vids show the 680 and 7970 as playing at 70 - 80fps. What should I do?

The thing is in terms of specs will I really see much if any of a performance increase especially if i'm spending between £300 - £400? It would just eliminate microstutter. That's alot of money for not much performance.....

i picked up a zotac GTX680 AMP! for 449 with 40 dollar rebate...
