Nokia 1100 v6.64 08-04-05 T9 now defaults to Caps when ent..

Nokia 1100 crashed badly, took it to Nokia repair centre who re-flashed it
with v6.64 08-04-05 version software.
All seemed fine until I had to enter a custom word..if the first letter of
the word requires more than one keytap (ie: b,c,e,f,h,i) then it reverts to
a capital letter, even if you tell it not to, and even though it thinks it's
still lower case. The ONLY way round it is to type the letter twice, then
delete the first instance of it.
It's an extremely annoying bug - my girlfriend has a Nokia 7260 which also
does the same.
I called the repair centre which says there's no fix for it yet.
Is there any way round this? IS there new software they are not aware of?
