Hello everyone!

Total newbie on this forum (although I have read some posts already). I am working on a cheap gaming setup. Setup would be around 400$ or less. Intended for gaming only that will last for like 2-3 years. I would like to run games smoothly at recommended specs. I have a list already of the parts that I have come up with and my question is can it run games coming out this year. Thank you in advance.

CPU: AMD FX-6300

Motherboard: ASRock 970 Extreme 4

Memory: 8GB(2x4GB) Ares DDR3 1866

GPU: Radeon HD 6770

GPU: I have the Radeon 6870 and it runs most games in medium to high fairly easy. So, the card you have should be able to play games with a decent framerate at medium to high settings (maybe a little better if you overclock the card). My 5770 could still play most FPS decently (not crysis mind you, but other games were more than playable, heck i played SW:The force unleashed 2 on a eyefinity setup 1440x900 x3 and it ran decent).

Thanks a bunch cyphacipher for the reply. I might go for the 6870. I just want to know. The 6770 and 6870 can it run the new Tomb Raider game (2013) in recommended specs? And do I have any upgrade path for the setup that I have?

Naughty, you didn't list your PSU. What are you getting? Arguably, it is the most important part of your system.

Sorry for the long reply. Little busy with work lately. PSU? 600W is ok right?

Looks like the Radeon 6870 can run the game at Ultra settings with very good framerate. Here's a youtube video of someone playing it on this exact card. After doing a search on youtube it seems the radeon 6870 can run BF3, COD MW3 and most any other game at Ultra settings with more than respectable framerate (45-60+ fps).

Also, I got my card off Ebay for like $109 for the HIS Radeon 6870. Im impressed by it since my last card was a XFX Radeon 5770.

Nice! im gonna watch the youtube video after work. But if it can run BF3 in ultra settings I think I would go for that card. Thanks a bunch cyphacipher.

I know most posters suggest newest hardware, but nothing wrong with a higher end lower series card.
ESPECIALLY if on a budget ^^
Also, a nice 600w power supply is adequate.
