Video card specs compare questions

I am new to building pc's. I have a fair amount of computer knowledge but some what out of date on current hardware. I am not a hard core gamer and may not really notice small differences. But none the less, I would like to get the best for my money. I am trying to find a video card around $100 - $150. While comparing video cards, I have come accross some questions that I can not get a clear explanation of. I know there are alot of variables and some things are debatable, but due to my lack of knowledge, I need somewhat clear answers.
First question, I went with AMD CPU, does it make any difference getting a AMD video card or nvidia? Or are there absolutely no compatibility issues or benefits?
Second question, what would be better between 1 GB DDR5, or 2 GB DDR3?

It doesn´t really matter if your CPU is AMD or Intel, or if your card if from AMD or Nvidia -- they are compatible without any issue.

I would prefer 1 GB DDR5 rather than 2 GB DDR3 tough.

The best I have seen is a HIS 7850 for 164 at Newegg. It out performs everything else in the same price range.

some games are made with the "help" of some video card copmpanies. for example batman arkham city was helped by nvidia to make their game. so benchmarks may be a little higher for these games made wirth the help of thease companies.
