Firstly, I didn't see a sub-category for monitors so I just picked Graphics Cards, even thought I don't think my problem is related to the graphics card.
I have an HP Pavilion dv6-1245dx. It's about 4 or so years old. Used and abused but has held up nicely. Just recently it took a spill off our couch. Seemed to be OK but as days and weeks went by it was having issues when staring up you could tell everything was on and could make out the back light but got no picture. It eventually came to but then starting giving us a "could not detect boot device" message at start up... can't even remember how I got that cleared up... couldn't even get into the BIOS... I think after several restarts it just started working. We promptly went out and got a 3TB external drive to backup stuff. Anyway, after that we started noticing these spots forming on the display. They're mostly blue in color but the pixels don't appear to be completely dead as I can make out images "under" the spots. If I take a screenshot, of course, these spots are not there so it's not graphics card related. I've tried UDpixel and some other techniques involving applying light pressure and such, but nothing seems to work. I'd like some second opinions about that these spots are. Attached are a couple pictures showing how they look against a white background or with text or the pointer behind it. I've covered all of the two smaller spots with ten 5x5 flash windows using UDpixel and let run for a couple hours but couldn't detect any change, not sure if changing the flash interval to something other than the default 25ms would make any difference. Any feedback greatly appreciated.
