Cracked block ??

I heard a loud noise from my right front wheel. My battery light came on I had to stear with both hands I drove the car one block to my house. When I got there white somoke was pouring out from under the hood. I shut the engine off and when i did it stll made a sort of grinding moan as it shut off. Ford f-150 4x4

It's not a cracked block. I'm thinking the water pump might have went and took the belt with it.

A cracked block would not affect steering.

I agree with wip99gt, sounds like the water pump went out, and your serpentine belt went with it, taking "power" away from alternator (battery light) and power steering pump (steering).

Do you blow a hose?? It could of sprayed coolant causing the belt to slip and not power alternator and power steering. Which would explain the smoke burning the coolant on hot block.
