Hey all you experts, I am trying to build a gaming rig and need help with the ram. I currently have the asus p8z77-v pro motherboard link: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131819

I heard that unless I'm doing video editing, which I won't be, gaming rigs wont need more than 8gb ever and would just be a waste of money. I also heard that ram speeds after 1600 don't really make a difference, but I might have misunderstood what I was reading. Either way, I've come down to these two choices?

16gb ripjaws @1600 timing 9-9-9-25

or

8 gb ripjaws @2400 timing 10-12-12-31

I don't really know much about timings. Long story short, which one would you guys go with? Or if neither, which would you suggest?. Thanks in advance!

Those will definitely do.

However, you can probably find something a bit cheaper too. That brand of Corsair tends to be particularly tall, if you have an especially large cooler, you might want to get something a bit shorter. But as for specs, those are good.

Those will do but as Dennis said, they are tall adn may interfere with larger air coolers like the Noctau NH-D14.

They are also a tad expensive. But worth it, corsair is great.
They have perfect timings and voltage.

More loose timings but speed is more important for gaming than timing.
