I just bought a Plextor 2410 and the DAY after I got it I found this site  . Now I am hearing all the rave about LiteOns :frown: . Is there ANY benefit to having a Plextor? They don't sell LiteOns here locally. Also, if there isn't, then I will be quite  for paying the premium $50 more for the Plextor. Please give me the good news.....

Plextor is known to be one of if not the most reliable CDRW manufacturer out there. Their drives are high quality and very reliable. Lite-Ons, however, are a lower-standard brand, but seem to perform very well for their price and are fairly reliable.

unless you absolutely HAVE to make backups of a small number of games that have certain copy protections you should be very satisfied with the plextor as it is well made, reliable and will last you a good long while under normal conditions .. it has a reputation as one of the finest drives available

Actually, the newer 32X Lite-on burners can extract as fast as the Plextors.

I wouldn't call Lite-Ons lower-standard, they're just not a as popular as Plextor.

Thanks for the feedback. Glad to know I didn't make a big mistake. Now if only I could get rid of my Roxio and get Nero.

They even have 40X LiteOn's NOW! Search for a 40X LiteOn at pricewatch.com. Should be able to find one for less than $120US!

Yeah, I just saw that too. Been weeks since I've been to http://www.cdrinfo.com.

Other than compatibility, and maybe noise, the Plex's and Yamaha's are getting numbers real close to several other brands in the 32x+ category...
