I am on the AT&T side of the Cingular house mostly because to switch my
4 phones over will cause me to lose my AT&T plan in favor of a Cingular
plan that will cost $35+ more a month and take away 250 minutes...now
that we have that out of the way.....

My LG4015 phone died...they said it got wet and would not be covered
under warranty. It said it never got wet and the little red dot was a
liar! Over the phone they basically 'felt bad' for me I guess (seems
that the LG phone is known for problems) and they offered me a free
Nokia 3120 or a Motorolla V180 for $45. After some research I chose
the Nokia 3120....comments on the Motorolla ranged from the fact that
their were screen issues to it appeared someone else made the phone and
just slapped Motorollas name on it---who knows, one thing was certain,
everone thought the Nokia phone was the way to go.

I got my phone. As soon as I make a call (the volume is all the way up)
I hear a hissing noise. Also the volume, though at its max setting is
hard to hear...especially with that darn hiss masking it. I tried
another 3120 in the Cingular store it had a slight hiss but the volume
of the person speaking was about 50% louder. The dude also said he
though something sounded wrong woth my phone.

I called ATT and they had me manually switch the network and other junk
but to no avail. They are sending a new phone.

I have read many posts since and a lot of people complain about this
hissing noise and volume issues on the Nokia 3120. My new phone should
be here soon but I wonder if the AT&T 'older' 3120s had software issue
or something that made them more suceptable to the hiss and lower
volume I experienced? Why else would the same phone work better in
the store right alongside mine. I guess it is possible mine is
defective but there appears to be a bunch of folks out there with the
same complaint. I doubt these phones are being made 'new' for AT&T
anymore so I'll likey get a refurb (may have been one anyway) so if
the bugs are indeed worked out in newer 3120s, I'll likely never get
one. Any engineers out there want to take a stab at this one. Will I
be better off with the Motorolla V180?

Hello

I don't have any problems with my 3120. I'm using the radio headset when
talking.

I'm on a European network (Sonofon in Denmark). I don't hear any hiss at
all. Just plain talk and when talking, radio :)

My N3120 is about 2 month old
