EVGA GTX 670 FTW on eXtreme Power Plus 500W

Hey Everyone! :hello:

Finally I got hands on my EVGA GTX 670 FTW ( http://www.evga.com/Products/Product.aspx?pn=04G-P4-3673-KR )

And I wanted to check it on my system. But right now I am not sure about my PSU... I will be upgrading to something better soon, but is it OK to test it out on my current PSU? like, is there no risk? If it will melt my GPU then I will just wait for my new PSU....

This is my current PSU http://www.coolermaster.com/product.php?product_id=3738

Current PC specs and everything on stock with no overclock:

Intel DH55hc
Core i7 870
8GB Ram(4 sticks)
2 TB Seagate Baracuda hard drive
1 60 GB Kingston SSD boot drive

For long time? Or I can just check only ?

Also, lets wait and see what others have to say.
  3. Per EVGA, it's min requirements is 500 watt PSU anyway.

Your 12V Rails have enough amperage also.

(Minimum recommended power supply with +12 Volt current rating of 30 Amps.)
Two available 6-pin PCI-E power dongles
Total Power Draw : 170 Watts
  4. It requires 30 Amps on +12v My PSU have 18 Amps on 2 rails..... Are you sure it has enough juice?
  5. In theory it will work.but dual rail is not always better.i will simply get new 550-600w psu.
  6. Cm psus are bad.i would strongly suggesting you to get corsair, antec, seasonic 550w psu.
  7. Yeah, but is it Ok to just like use it with my PSU for month and upgrade later?

Or It involves too much risk of damaging my card?
  8. p.s I will not do any overclocking..
  9. +1 on the Coolermaster extreme 500w not being ideal. It will work, for a while. But you are stressing it, the CM "extreme" is really not good at all...

    Get a reliable 550w PSU.

You are getting high end card-gtx 670.just think that if your psu fails to deliver power to gtx 670 then your psu will become kaboom and it might take gpu with it.In just one second your $400 gpu money is gone in air.
  11. It's decent but see this : http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/article/Cooler-Master-eXtreme-Power-Plus-500-W-Power-Supply-Review/728/10

With ~40% load there's massive levels of ripple and noise...and poor efficiency.
Which could cause bsods, throttling, crashes...

I already have this baby in my hand... and it didn't just cost me just $400.... This monster took $640+ for me... as I had it ship from US to Pakistan... Damn! those duty taxes and all :\
  13. Ok 640 dollars is big money yaar.just upgrade to new psu
  14. Alright guys, I think I shouldn't be taking risk with this Card. Will only hook it up when I get new PSU...

Thanks everyone for the prompt responses :)
