I've had my Versa notebook for approximately six months now, and I love it! Unfortunately, it's been troublesome lately.
I was playing Diablo 2 when suddenly the notebook made a short buzzing sound and the fan stopped. I immediately shut the machine down and waited for it to cool off. When I started it up again, the fan came back on... but only temporarily. As soon as the OS started to load, the fan shut itself off again. I've tried all sorts of BIOS settings, upgraded the BIOS to the latest version, even tried two different operating systems (Win2K with latest service pack and GNU/Linux with 2.4 kernel).
Has anyone experienced anything like this? Should I take it in to be repaired?
I e-mailed NEC about it. All they could say was, "check the BIOS to make sure that the fan is not set to shut off."
I can't find any related option.
