Monitor consantly flickers/pulsates white/gray lines

I built my computer and everything is going pretty much completely fine. But there's one issue: this goddamn monitor.
As soon as I built this computer and played a game, I noticed it immediately. While playing any game, white and gray lines pulsate and move downward around the screen. They're either very visible in more dark areas, or more visible in more light areas; it seems to differ. Looking at bright colours and then back at darker colours while playing games will increase how much lines there are by a gigantic amount for around 4 seconds, before it goes back to a lesser amount.


This monitor and GPU are brand new out of the box, but this monitor is VGA, so I have to use a VGA cord (obviously) and use a DVI to VGA adapter on my GPU. This may be the issue as the DVI to VGA adapter is old as it was given to me by a friend. I dont think its an issue with my graphics card because it has absolutely no problems. I have a Gigabyte HD 7850 and a VGA LG 21.5 inch monitor. Help?

i'll take a stab and say it's the monitor. hooking an old dead beat monitor to modern tech can put it belly up in short order. try another/friends-neighbors.

blow air directly on the processor? I'm positive its not my processors fault. All of my parts have never once exceeded 50C, even on heavy load. Heat is not an issue.

see that big black heat sink just below the processor? that gets way hot, and if it gets too hot it will ruin your day. don't care about the temps you are reading.

ram voltage? see label on ram.

why would temps even affect my monitor?

it's what happens before it gets to your monitor that matters. that's what I'm trying to figure out. but so far you really haven't told me you did too much of what i suggested or provided all the information I seek.

let me know when you get it figure out.
