Editing Replay Video on a Macintosh

I've downloaded some shows to my computer and I'm able to play them
with Video Lan Client (VLC) for Macintosh. I would like to edit these
file -- trimming ends, commercials, and re-compressing. I'd like to
be able to make a file small enough to fit on a CD. I'd also like to
try to de-interlace the files too. What are my options?

For best use, you need the QT mpeg component, but read the site as there
are formats you can save to without it.

It's really good at editing files straight off the Replay. Snip off
commercials or just save bits of shows you like. Another really good
feature is that it will fix the audio glitchs that Replay files have that
causes a two hour movie to lose it's audio sync.

You have the option to de-interlace, but if you're going to do serious
re-compressing, I've found that ffMpegX works well at shrinking files to a
small size once you figure the darn thing out. . .
