I think he means his SD card reader for camera, etc... cards. I would try reinstalling the SD card reader drivers found off of your PC manufacturers website such as www.hp.com, www.dell.com, www.acer.com, etc... Or if you custom built it, it might be on the case makers website since most cases are the ones that provide the drivers.

Otherwise have you tried unplugging it and plugging it in again?
I know it sounds stupid but sometimes that fixes computer problems if the cord got loose and now is disconnected

older SD card readers can only read SD cards upto 2 GB capacity

not the latter SD HD cards of 4GB and up

Try unplugging the card reader (if external) , rebooting the PC then plugging card reader into a different USB port
