Formatting external storage device from raw to ntfs 7 without losing data

Every time i plug my external storage device to my computer, i am asked to "you need to format the disk in drive F: Before you can use it. Do you want to format it?" I checked my drive and its File system is RAW. I don't want format it because all my important data are in it.

You can't format the drive without loosing the data on it.
There are a few things you can try before formatting and loosing your data.
1. Do a chkdsk on the drive, there may be bad sectors causing this.
2. Try using a different USB cable, a bad cable may limit the power needed to run the disk. If there is a power cable use it.
3. Remove the disk from its case and install internally.
