Anyone noticing their Pioneer DVD player discoloring the bottom of their DVDs? If I leave my DVDs in there for longer than a few hours I notice that there is permanent discoloration. Is this normal? Thanks.

I have a Pioneer slot-in and I haven't noticed anything like this. The discs do get hot though after awhile, maybe that's it. Do the discs still work after getting discolored? If so, I wouldn't worry about it, it's probably nothing. That thing is loud though, sounds like a damn airplane.

No damage occuring in mine that I'm aware of. Don't use if very often, though (for DVD's anyway). It's not very loud, either...but there are so damn many variations of that thing [16x], anybody know what the performance differences are? Like, the 105S, 106S? There's like a $40 dif in price, but what's the difference?

If I don't get my 90THz AMD Quadraplex system soon, I'm afraid I may just combust right here.

I don't think it's normal for a CD to be discolored like that...

he didnt say what color they are tho.
i mean he might be looking at the dvd and seeing it as different color than a normal cd, which is usually the case.
beats me, since he hasnt posted back.

Sorry bout that eh. When I said discoloration I meant that a portion of the disk (near the inner rim) is slightly darker than the rest of the disk. It isn't a consistent circle either, but rather a splatter. I took a closer look at a regular CD (Shogun) and noticed the same thing before sticking it into the Pioneer which may suggest this is normal for CDs. Anyone know what this is?

there are actually 4or5 DVD models from pioneer on the market.

115 - tray
105S - trayless
both these models are older than the 116/106S... its not reccomended u get either of them as they had trouble doing decent DAE off cd's.

116 & 106S. both still 16x dvd 40x cd, they are newer, quieter and faster doing DAE. your choice of tray or trayless.

there is also a 10x dvd, but i believe thats a scsi drive.

Oh yeah... one final thing.
i have a pioneer 106S. i have never noticed cd or dvd discolouration. i leave cd's/dvd's in the drive for sometimes long periods of time, while the computer is on and off. never notice anything except warm cd's if they ahve been used significantly.

hmm..i dont have any cds that have discoloration.
they are all pretty consistent. MAYBE it is your drive getting warm, but i dont know what would cause it to discolor like that.
when you take the cds out after they have been in use for a while, are they HOT...?

Yes they are hot. But I thought that was just a normal thing. I also bought a new Max Payne CD and it had the same discoloration on the bottom before I stuck it in the drive.

before eh?
then maybe you are fine.
and yes...some cdroms do get pretty hot under heavy use...but i have never seen damage caused by it.

but since you said there was the same discoloration, then maybe you are looking at something different.
