I have the MSI gtx 660 ti oc/pe

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

It will run borderlands 2 and battlefield 3 on ultra, obviously I can't speak for Crysis 3, but I have the other 2. Since you listed borderlands 2 specifically I recommend going with Nvidia for physX, it really shines in that game.

We can rule out the 3GB card since 2GB will be more than enough for games.

Between the 660ti and the 7870, I would go for the 7870 just because it's cheaper. If your monitor has an older resolution, then either one will be more than enough and you can probably settle for an even cheaper card and be able to max out.

The highest performing gpu under $300 is the Radeon HD 7870 XT (also known as Radeon HD 7870 LE). It is not the same thing as the normal 7870. TH did a review on it a little while ago and it is the best choice unless you can find a gtx 670 or radeon hd 7950 for under $300.

hows the cooling on them compared to a twin frozor and if their so powerfull y are they not more well known there must be some sort of draw back

They came out less than two weeks ago which is why they aren't well known and why I can only find two models for sale. Sapphire's cooling is very good and I would personally pay the $20 extra instead of getting the power color.

This article introduces the 7870 LE

that makes more sense do you think i should wait longer for better models to come out and do u think its better than a evga 660ti supercloced http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

thats what my friend has and he brags about having a better gpu than me although i have a better overall system

The 7870 XT and 660 ti are extremely close in performance. If you have a multi monitor setup or a resolution above 1080p or you like to overclock as far as you possibly can then you should go with AMD. If physx is important to you or you want to try 3d gaming in the future or you have a resolution lower than 1080p then you should go with nvidia.

i reallly like the physx but i think the xt will be worth it cause its less money. One last thing hows overclocking on gpus ive done cpus but idk

It's a bit riskier than cpu overclocking in the sense that your computer won't shut off if it gets too hot, but you will be fine as long as you overclock in small increments at a time. To test if an overclock is stable, use heaven dx11 or 3dmark11 or a similar program. Do not use furmark or kombustor or occt or programs like that because they stress your gpu a lot more than any game will ever do. AMD is recommended over nvidia for overclockers because nvidia locks the voltage on their graphics cards while AMD doesn't.

i would say the 7950 is your best option.after overclocking it can be even better than a 670

If you're playing on a really old, low-res monitor you could go cheaper and still max everything.

on a low res a 7770 or GTX650Ti is really all you need.

Also PhysX is close to useless, 27 games use it, and maybe 4 are games you've heard about. I wouldn't let that influence your decision.

The 7870 XT and 660 ti are identical in performance and the choice is up to you, but if you can find a 7950 for less than $300 then that is by far the best choice.

If you want to play crisis 3 i recommend you wait till the 8k Radeon cards or the 700 Nvidia card's. Crisis 3 will rape a 660ti or 7870. If you want to play maxed out wait till 8870 or the 770 comes out...

This is true. The goal of Crysis 3 is for it to be just like the original Crysis where nobody can max it out on release and very few people can play it comfortably even on low settings.

I ran across this thread while trying to find a reference for my friend with a similar question and thought I'd add this for anyone else who stumbles across it. I used to have a 660 ti and it ran crysis 3 very well with all but 2 settings on ultra.

Your definition of "very well" was probably 15-30 fps where as mine is 45+ fps. And there is know way that your 660 ti is getting any more fps that what was previously stated.
