Most efficient NAT?

I have a LAN set up running on a p1 MMX 233. It is connected to a cable modem and is sharing the internet connection via a sygate NAT. However, whenever I try to me and my brother try to game on the net with the shared connection. The pings run in the 200s, rather than 75-100 when the modem was directly connected to my computer and I was gaming alone.

Can I get anymore performance (lower ping, fewer disconnects?) when we are both gaming on the same modem, or should I just realize that we won't be able to play at the same time over the net?

I believe that the best and most efficient NAT is the hardware type like the Linksys 4 port router. It uses NAT and everyone that has one likes it. One fella says that he can change the mac (?) address if his ISP tries to ban the other addresses he uses. This is something anyway, Take-Out

The problem with the playing games at the same time is because of the upload. If you have ever played q2 or q3 and check the internet connection window (if you have one) you will see that the amount that you uploaded is more than the amount you downloaded. Since your upload amount is capped lower than the download, the change in upload speeds are more noticable then download. Hope that helps.
