Bought Asus CM6870, Want to Upgrade Card

I recently bought my new computer: Asus CM6870-US-3AD
Specs:
Windows 8 Pro 64-bit | Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-3770 CPU @ 3.40GHz (8 CPUs), ~3.4GHz | 16384MB RAM | NVIDIA GeForce GT 620 | Asus CM6870 Mobo

It was only $700 after rebate so I felt I got good bang for my buck given the processor and RAM it came with. The graphics card is its main weakness and I would like to upgrade it. I do not play many games but when I do I like FPS and do not really want highly dialed back graphics. The reviews of the computer I read point out that the graphics card is weak. They also state that upgrading is limited because the power supply is only 300W. This puzzles me a bit because if I am wanting to upgrade my graphics card why not upgrade the power supply while I am at it? Power supplies are relatively cheap, is there something I am missing?

Anyways, I am looking to upgrade my graphics card and potentially my power supply (timeframe: immediately). Budget $350 or less. I like TigerDirect.com.

Thank you for your help

  1. psu's, it depends on how you define relatively cheap. mine cost a little less than $200, but there are cheaper options.

just dont buy those $20 psu's

a 7870 or even the old 6870 can be had cheap.
get a seasonic psu around 550w, that should set, ~$100 i think.

and yes no offense, that gpu you have sucks. that is a major bottleneck right there, like one leg slower (a lot) than the other
  2. Hello,

You don't wanna get a cheap PSU, They have to be 80 plus certified they are more efficient and they don't fry your computer parts.

Now for the graphics card, If you don't want to reach the limit of your budget go with the GTX 650 that card is enough for playing Call of duty black ops 2 maxed.
But your budget is 350 dollars so you can go with a gtx 660 or gtx 660 ti too.
