Amd 7770 trouble

when i try to overclock my amd card when any game displays and graphics in the level just starting out my game will freeze and i have to CTL ALT delete it and it will say catilyist drivers have stopped working even clocking the core by 1 over will do this its not the drivers iv gone by 3 diffrent versions right now its 13.1 idk what to do i have a good psu so dont ask if its that :fou:

It maybe possible that you are overclocking too much, what brand is your card?

I think it's not the PSU issue since topic creator said OC of 1mhz will freeze, I guess some cards have this kind of issue since I've heard that problem elsewhere.
Also to the topic creator, please use punctuations, I almost suffocated myself reading your post.

Your PSU is okay. One "rail" is going to the motherboard, and the other to the video card. 18a per "rail" is plenty for that application. Also, I'm 99% sure that PSU just has a single +12v rail with a split output. You almost never see a true split +12v on any PSU under 1000w.

are you saying i should try re wiring the mobo

I'm saying you're fine as is :D . Unless Antec had an anneurysm when designing the VP-450, one +12v output supplies the 24 pin and the 4/8 pin to the motherboard, and the other supplies the 6-pin pci-e connector, so your card has 18a all to itself.

the 18a on the 6-pin is more than you'd ever need to overclock a 7770. Try the steps outlined earlier

1. reinstall drivers, making sure you get rid of every vestige of old drivers first (get driver sweeper!!!)
2. give it a pre-overclock voltage bump
3. make sure the memory is not being overclocked, just the core.

Here's a question for someone more knowledgable than me.

Since the 7770 uses less than 75w 99.9% of the time, will it power up with just the pci-e slot power? If so, it may be possible that the 6 pin on the OP's PSU isn't actually delivering any juice (possibly not fully connected).

That wasn't a suggestion to try >.<, it was just a hypothetical. I was asking any graphics card guru's that happened by this thread if that was possible. I did not intend for you to do anything regarding the 6 pin yet. The first three things you should try were listed above.
